ACCOMPLISHMENTS, SPECIAL EVENTS <br />& OPPORTUNITIES <br />Why Now? <br />Construction costs are at their <br />lowest point in years, and the <br />need for low-cost, local recreation <br />are in demand now more than <br />ever. <br />Accomplishments <br />• 2000- Appliedforand received <br />$100,000 grant (awarded the <br />maximum amount) through <br />Minnesota Amateur Sports <br />Commission and the State of <br />Minnesota's "Mighty Kicks" <br />grant. This grant was used <br />to develop soccer fields at <br />Elmcrest Park. <br />• 2007 - Anoka High School Boys <br />Soccer Team wins MN State <br />High School League Class 2A <br />State Championship. This was <br />the first time a north -metro <br />high school won a state soccer <br />championship in class 2A. <br />These players were almost <br />exclusively NLS members. <br />• Northern Lights Soccer Club <br />has produced five MYSA state <br />champions and 11, 2nd-place <br />teams. <br />• Teams compete at all levels <br />of play from Classic 3 to the <br />Premier Division. <br />• NLS numerous graduates are <br />active in college and semi- <br />professional soccer. <br />• Developed fund-raising <br />programs and scholarship <br />funds to help families so that <br />no child is turned away due to <br />financial difficulty. <br />• Applied for and received four <br />grants from MYSA for safety <br />upgrades to soccer goals. <br />All fields within the city of <br />Ramsey now have nationally <br />approved goals with approved <br />anchoring techniques. <br />Special Events & Opportunities <br />• MYSA U9/U10 Fall Jamboree <br />— attendance approximately <br />8,700 during one -day festival. <br />Hosted first time in fall 2009 <br />and signed two-year contract. <br />• MYSA North District <br />Tournament — attendance <br />approximately 6,000 during <br />three-day event. <br />• Opportunity — MYSA U9/ <br />U10 Summer Jamboree — <br />attendance approximately <br />8,700 during one -day festival. <br />• Opportunity — Summer <br />Regional Tournament. <br />• Opportunity — Summer State <br />Tournament. <br />• Opportunity — Fall State <br />Tournament. <br />• Opportunity — Summer <br />Invitational Tournaments. <br />• Opportunity — Small -sided <br />Jamborees. <br />Ramsey Soccer Milestones: <br />• Northern Lights Soccer Club <br />(NLS) traveling program <br />started in 1999 with one <br />team of 16 players. It has <br />grown to 36 teams and <br />507 players in 2010. <br />• 2006 — Anoka Youth Athletic <br />Association merged with <br />Ramsey Youth Athletic <br />Association (program was <br />renamed Anoka Ramsey <br />Athletic Association). <br />• 2008 — Minnesota <br />Revolution (stand-alone <br />soccer program primarily <br />servicing Anoka and <br />Andover) merged with NLS <br />(program maintained NLS <br />name). <br />• 2010 — 25 years of service. <br />C.nrrer and lacrosse are oonular <br />youth sports in Ramsey. <br />
