Trott Brook
City of Ramsey
Questions for Incumbent Commissioners
Seeking Reappointment
Jim Steffen September 29, 2004
1. What do you feel has been the most important accomplishment of the
Commission during your term of office?
Our most important accomplishment was the level of development that was completed in
2004. 2004 produced twice the amount of office and industrial square feet (175,000) and
jobs (34) in Ramsey than 2003 and 2002 combined. A large part of that development
involved cleaning up and redeveloping blighted properties, which the EDA was actively
involved.
2. What do you feel has been your most important personal contribution to the
Commission's work during your term of office?
The current members of the commission are very collaborative and work well together as
a team. I don't know that any one member can take credit for a particular project or
accomplishment. I would add that my attendance has been nearly perfect over two years.
I come to the meetings prepared and ready to debate the issues. I was voted by the
members to be the Vice Chair for 2004. I also completed a QCTV segment with Megan
Wald where we discussed the recent accomplishments of the EDA.
3. What has been your greatest frustration as a commissioner?
My greatest frustration is the lack of progress on the Rum River Commercial Node. The
EDA commissioned two different studies, the McCombs Group Market Research study
and the recent land use study. We organized a town hall meeting attended by interested
parties to discuss possible redevelopment opportunities. The project is currently stalled
due to a threatened lawsuit by the current landowner.
4. In your opinion, what would make the Commission more effective?
I think the commission will be more effective due to the 2005 budget we recently
established and the EDA levy that we recently passed. We will now have available funds
to continue to acquire and redevelop properties. In addition, the communication between
staff and the commission members has been improved. The above will help the EDA be
more proactive and visionary, and less reactive to cases presented be staff.
5431 173rd Avenue Northwest
Ramsey, Minnesota 55303
Phone 763.21 3.1000
Fax 763.213.1001
www.trottbrookfinancial.com
Securities offered through Linsco /Private Ledger
Member NASD /51PC • MN Lic #50690
