5.01: Tree Sale Discussion (Continued) <br />Associate Planner /Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report and reviewed <br />the proposed species of trees to be included in the tree sale this year. He stated that he is still <br />working to develop an incentive for early orders. He noted that the January/February City <br />newsletter was condensed but he was able to include a small paragraph announcing the tree sale <br />and directing interested parties to the City website. <br />Chairperson Max questioned how many people pre- ordered in previous sales. <br />Associate Planner /Environmental Coordinator Anderson was unsure of the number but did not <br />think it was very high. He estimated a total of 12 -15 orders but noted that many of the orders <br />included multiple trees. He advised that sales have declined over the past three years. <br />Board Member Lewis questioned if another issue of the newsletter would reach residents prior to <br />March 31 <br />Associate Planner /Environmental Coordinator Anderson confirmed that the March/April issue <br />would reach residents prior to that date. <br />Board Member Lewis commented that Associate Planner /Environmental Coordinator Anderson <br />chose a nice selection of trees for the sale. <br />Associate Planner /Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he hoped to finalize the <br />species list in the next week with the vendor. <br />Board Member Bentz questioned if these species were native. <br />Associate Planner /Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that while not all the species are <br />native, they all perform well in this area. <br />Chairperson Max confirmed that the Subcommittee did not meet since the last meeting. <br />5.02: Tree Preservation Ordinance Review <br />Associate Planner /Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report and asked for <br />the input of the Board on whether there is desire or need to revisit the ordinance in terms of <br />replacement standards. <br />Board Member Bentz stated that he believed the ordinance to be wordy and easy to get lost in. <br />He questioned if this would be discouraging for a developer coming into the City. He noted that <br />while he did not see anything wrong with the ordinance, he believed it could be simplified. <br />Board Member Lewis questioned how this ordinance compares to those of other Metro <br />communities. <br />Environmental Policy Board / January 7, 2013 <br />Page 2 of 5 <br />
