The use of dea r_force in self-defense <br />> Reasonable person standard <br />> Least intrusive method <br />> Non -willing participant <br />➢ Use of reasonable force <br />➢ Use of deadly force <br />> Ability of an attacker (are they actually capable of causing <br />death or serious injury) <br />> The J.A,M Principle (are you in Jeopardy, do they have the <br />Ability, and Means) <br />> Innocent victim of an attack <br />➢ Duty to retreat <br />➢ Brandishing <br />A Cessation of threat <br />Defensive Accuracy <br />Firearm- Tool of last resort <br />> Balance speed with accuracy.- Shoot as fast as possible while <br />staying on target <br />> Aim for center of mass <br />Interacting with the, Police <br />You may at some point have to deal with the police while you are <br />carrying your handgun. Remember police are very cautious when it <br />comes to people with guns. Think of their safety as well as your own. <br />➢ Move slowly and cautiously- Tell the officer what you are <br />going to do before you do it <br />' Always keep your hands in the officer's site (he fears what <br />he can't see just like you do) <br />➢ Inform him/Jer_that you have aCCW and are carrying a <br />handgun and where it is <br />> Follow the commands you are given- <br />■ He may ask you to hand over your handgun, DO IT, it <br />is for their safety as well as yours, When you DO pull <br />your gun out to give to him/her, move very slowly <br />and carefully. Use two fingers to grip the gun and DO <br />NOT TOUCH THE TRIGGER! <br />➢ If you are pulled over, keep your hands on the wheel and <br />inform the officer that you have a CCW and are carrying/not <br />carrying a weapon. Let them tell you what to do from there. <br />6 <br />
