be displayed. <br />(3) <br />a. Wall, canopy or marquee sign. Total sign area may not exceed 15 percent of the front building <br />facade. At least 50 percent of the signage area must be placed on the measured wall with <br />remaining signage area, if desired, distributed on any other wall. Sign height shall not exceed <br />the top of the parapet wall or, if no parapet wall, sign height shall not exceed the height of the <br />eaves. The gross surface area of a wall, canopy or marquee sign may be increased by ten percent <br />if such wall sign: <br />1. Consists only of individual, outlined alphabetic, numeric and/or symbolic characters <br />without background except that provided by the building surface to which the sign is to be <br />affixed; <br />2. Illumination, if any, is achieved through shielded illumination, shielded silhouette lighting, <br />or shielded spot lighting but not any lighting where the light source is visible or exposed on <br />the face or sides of the characters; and <br />3. A wall, canopy or marquee sign may be located on the outermost wall of any principal <br />building but shall not project more than 16 inches from the wall to which the sign is to be <br />affixed. A wall sign shall not project higher than the parapet line of the wall to which the <br />sign is to be affixed. <br />b. Ground sign. There shall not be more than one ground sign for each parcel. The gross surface <br />area of a ground sign shall not exceed 100 square feet for each exposed face nor exceed an <br />aggregate gross surface area of 200 square feet. <br />c. Menu board. One on -site menu board per drive -up or walk-up lane of a drive-in restaurant up to <br />a maximum of 32 square feet each. Menu boards are allowed a message on one side only and <br />cannot contain an advertising message. <br />d. Directional signs. <br />1. Directional or instructional signs are permitted in accordance with section 117-463(1). <br />2. Parking lot directional signs designating parking area entrances and exits are limited to one <br />sign for each entrance and/or exit and shall not exceed four square feet for each exposed <br />face. Parking lot directional signs shall not project higher than five feet in height, as <br />measured from the established grade of the parking area to which such signs are accessory. <br />3. Parking lot instructional signs designating the conditions of use or identification parking <br />areas shall not exceed eight square feet and shall not project higher than ten feet in height <br />for wall signs and seven feet in height for ground signs, as measured from the established <br />grade of the parking area to which such signs are accessory. <br />4. Window signs are restricted to 30 percent of the area of the window in which the sign is to <br />Prohibited signs (except as allowed in subsection (f)(2) of this section): <br />a. Signs employing mercury vapor, low pressure and high pressure sodium and metal halide <br />lighting; plastic panel rear -lighted signs. <br />b. Signs on roofs, dormers, and balconies. <br />c. Billboards. <br />d. Signs painted or mounted upon the exterior side or rear walls on any principle or accessory <br />
