The constant flow <br />of traffic to and from the metro area makes Ramsay an ideal location for commercial, <br />industrial, and housing developments. <br /> <br />ACCESSIBILITY TO MARKETS <br /> <br />Ramsay, being incorporated in a Standard Metropolitan Stastical Area enjoys immediate <br />accessibility of Minneapolis and St. Paul just to the south on Highway #10. The nearest small <br />Standard Metropolitan Stastical Area market is St. Cloud, with 42,568 people, a 45 minute <br />drive north on Highway #10. Duluth, with 100,000 people, is located 180 miles north on <br />interstate #35. Outstate markets accessible by road or track are Fargo/Moorehead, Des <br />Moines, Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, Madison and Milwaukee. <br /> <br />RAILROAD <br /> <br />There is a major north-south railroad line running through the southern portion of Ramsay <br />parallel to Highway #10. The line is owned and maintained by Burlington Northern. A total of <br />thirty-seven (37) trains use the tracks dally, comprised of two Amtrak trains and thirty-five <br />freight trains. Freight on the trains range from farm produce to automobiles. <br /> <br />COMMERCIAL BUS <br /> <br />Greyhound bus line has service available in Anoka and Elk River with connections possible south <br />to the center cities and south suburban areas. The Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC), <br />has service available in Anoka with connection possible around the Twin Cities and neighboring <br />cities. <br /> <br />MOTOR CARRIER SERVICES <br /> <br />Ramsey is serviced by both national and local truck lines. There are numerous carriers <br />available to serve Ramsey. A few of the larger carriers include Consolidated Freightways, Ekre <br />Trucking, Oehrlein Trucking, Chalich Trucking Inc., Terminal Warehouse Co., Murphy, and All <br />American Trucking. <br /> <br />AVIATION <br /> <br />Gateway North Industrial Airport, a privately owned facility, is located within the City of <br />Ramsey. However, a 1985 Airport Master Plan Study was undertaken to evaluate the <br />feasibility and desirability of converting the airport from private to a publicly owned facility. <br />The analysis of the study, along with public input about the project, is still being considered. <br />Businesses that use and promote the airport are; Dickinson Bus Company, Ho[ley Industries, <br />Mate Tool and Die, Howe Fertilizer, United Power Association, Water Control Inc., Gateway <br />Engineering, Aircom, and Anoka Technical Institute. The airport is also a full service Fixed <br />Base Operator. The City is approximately 35 minutes from the Minneapolis/St. Paul <br />International Airport. The ten area airports combined have 15 major airlines and ten commuter <br />airlines to serve the metropolitan area. <br /> <br />UTILITIES <br /> <br />Currently, Anoka Electric Cooperative, under the United power Association, provides the <br />electricity for the City of Ramsey. Gas is provided by Midwest Gas. Ramsey is served by the U.S <br />West Communications for their local phone service. <br /> <br /> <br />
