COUNTRYSIDE ESTATES PARK IMPROVEMENTS
(IMPROVEMENT PROJECT 90-25)
By: Merland Otto

CAS #1

Background:

The 1990 parks budget includes $7,500 for site improvements at
Countryside Estates Park (Sorteberg 6th Addition). The City
Council authorized preparation of park improvement plans on July
24, 1990.

city Engineer, Steve Jankowski, has been coordinating with
residents to develop a park improvement program. As a result of
those meetings, the consensus is to purchase playground equipment
rather than initiating other site improvements.

Attached is a rough sketch of the proposed park plan indicating the
approximate location of the tot lot, a future ballfield, vehicle
parking and open area.

If the Parks Commission concurs, Mr. Jankowski will meet with the
residents to select playground equipment for the park.

Observations:

Delivery of playground equipment takes 4-6 weeks after ordering so
equipment would be installed in 1991.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff concurs that tot lot equipment could be installed without
limiting future park development. Park equipment selected should
be compatible with other playground equipment elements in the
city's park system. Finally, in accord with policy, resilient
surfacing and perimeter timbers should be installed with the
equipment.

commission Action:

Motion to recommend/not recommend purchase of playground equipment,
providing resilient surfacing and perimeter timbers in an amount
of $7,500 plus overhead and contingency for Countryside Estates
park.

Review Checklist:

City Administrator
City Attorney
city Engineer
Zoning Administrator

X

X

Chief of Police
Finance Officer X
Public Works Supt.
