MEMORANDUM

TO:

City Council
Planning and Zoning Commission

FROM: Mark S. Banwm, Community Development Direclor ~ 5 [
DA~: February 1, 1990
SUBJECT: No Parking Signs on Highway ~10 N.W.

As you may recall, on August 22, 1989, the Ramsey City Council ad#pled Resolution #89-08-21()
requesting tile Minnesola Deparm'~ent of Transportation to erect "No Parking" signs on Highway
010 within the City of Ramsey. Since that time, Git5, Staff has been following throttgh wilh this
request.

Although the Resolution and iment of "No Parking" signs was for elimination of parking on
Highway #10 in ifs entirety through the City of Ramsey; the original intent of the request was to
focus in on specific areas of Highway -/410 where from time to time individuals would park their
car on the shoulder of Highway #10 while the), were perusing used car lots and other businesses.

On February 1, 1990, the City received a cop), of a District Traffic Work Order, directing thai "No
Parking" signs will be installed on tile entirety of Highway #10 N.W. in the Cily of Ramsey. II is
apparent that Minnesota DOT concurred with the City of Ramsey's concerns for public safe~y by
directing the erection of the "No Parking" signs.

It would be an appropriate act of the City to thank the Minnesota Depamnent of Transportation for
their thoughtfulness and follow through on this most important issue (once the traffic signs have
been installed).

MSB:ccr
