Acting Mayor Peterson reviewed the process stating that after tonight's meeting, the residents have <br />a 60 da), period to petition for or against this project (ending Ma), 8th). It depends upon whether <br />the petition is for or against as to what the Council and Town Board will do regarding the <br />improvements. <br /> <br />Mr. Hartlev informed the residents present that if petitions come in with an equal number of <br />persons in i'avor of and opposed to, the improvement, the Council will approve the improvement. <br />He also said that City Charter allows one vote per property owner so whether you own 15 lots or 1 <br />lot, all affected property owners get one vote. <br /> <br />Mary Smith - asked if the City of Ramsey and Burns Township were treated as two different <br />entities. <br /> <br />Mr. Hartley answered her that they were and that he was describing Ramsey's procedure according <br />to City Charter. <br /> <br />Mr. Berg - stated Burns Township follows State Statutes. A petition of 35% of the affected <br />property owners favoring a project is sufficient number for Burns to order a project. He stated that <br />Burns Township has voted per parcel, so if you have 15 parcels of land, yhou also get 15 votes. <br /> <br />Jean Crosby - asked if the petitions were handled separately for Burns and Ramsey. The answer <br />was yes. <br /> <br />Gary Rose, 5471 - 155th Avenue - questioned if the petitions would actually do any good since the <br />Council and Boardmembers have the final vote. <br /> <br />Councilmember Peterson stated that if the majority is against the improvements, the project would <br />be dropped. However, according to City charter, if the number of persons on the petition favoring <br />a project equals the number on a petition opposing a project, the proposed project must be <br />approved. He also stated if the residents had any questions, they should contact Mr. Hartley at <br />City Hall. <br /> <br />Mr. Berg commented he was available for calls also. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cich and seconded by Councilmember Pearson to adjourn the public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Acting Mayor Peterson, Councilmembers Cich, Pearson and <br />DeLuca. VotingNo: None Abstaining: Mayor Reimann.
