• People moved here for land
• Maintain and don't disrupt integrity of existing neighborhoods
• Consideration of true density transition, example: 2 acre lots with city lots next to them
should be 2 acre to 1.5 to 1 and so on (layer transition)
• Residents that don't want or need something (i.e., curbs, water) shouldn't have to pay for it
• Does the demand for services warrant it?
• Existing landowners should not be forced to subsidize infrastructure needed by someone
else's "for profit" development
ISSUE: Where can new neighborhoods occur in Ramsey? And can they? What should
they look like?
• Density should be flexible -varying densities have lived next to each other for decades, just
fine. Some lands can support more density than others. Lots of 2 acres or less is good.
• Should be able to occur anywhere in Ramsey depending on suitability of land, roads, etc.
(proximity to city sewer & water)
• Rural preserve (4 in 40) must go away. It is a penalty to our longest-owning landowners!
• Do not force redevelopment
• Have transitional density
• Mixed use
• Walkable developments
ISSUE: What is the appropriate infrastructure to support any such neighborhoods? Randy
Cornell ~
• Sufficient water supply?
• Be more proactive with roads and infrastructure
• Access to city sewer or septic systems
• Sufficient lot size for septic systems
• Encourage more master planning of proposed developments
• Update trail system to accommodate new neighborhoods and parks
ISSUE: Are the right people showing up? How do we "reach" people? We can't make
people come. Eric Zaetsch
• No sustained input from certain people, yet they pay the taxes
• Some people are waiting for the City to make the decisions
• Go to them and ask them what they want
• Some people don't care -life just comes -time demands
• Some people don't think they can make a difference
• Some people think the City's going to do what they want anyway
• Some people aren't comfortable
• How do you get a representative sample of these people?
• Do you go to them? Go out to the areas? Would it be worth it?
• Councilmembers should "represent" their constituency -attendance
• People who are here know others and know their opinions
• What is the goal number of people?
11
