Comments from Other Commissions and Boards
Environmental Policy Board Input
• Impressed with the level of citizen involvement with regard to natural resources at
the OSTs. It appears that there is strong community support to preserve natural
resources. OSTs were "a breath of fresh air" Everybody got the chance to be
heard.
• Would be nice to differentiate which goals/policies came from existing Comp
Plan, OSTs, or staff/consultant additions.
• A lot of goals. Would be nice to pare them down, prioritize them, or organize into
longer/shorter term goals.
• Consider an executive summary of each topic that is concise and focused, so that
the document can be easily referenced.
• Strong desire to use it as a guidepost for writing Council and Commission Work
Plans.
Park Commission Input
• Generally glad to see reinforcement of P&R Commission's current goals
• Glad to see connectivity component, also community center
• Should consider adding Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design
(OPTED) policies/guidelines for parks and other areas, not just housing
• Shouldn't reduce existing sidewalk policies, should be expanding instead
• Sidewalks are good, but they need to lead somewhere
Like the strategy that increases signage and pavement markings for trails
• Need to resolve inconsistencies between comp plan maps and park and trail plan
map
• Park & Recreation Strategy: Minimize at-grade crossings of trails and roads and
other interactions between trail users and automobiles *should be clarified to state
underpasses and overpasses*
• Park & Recreation Strategy: Explore the use ofpedestrian-activated signals,
continuously flashing signage and mid-block crossings to further increase trail
safety *concerned with encouraging mid-block crossings, these should be
minimized or eliminated*
Economic Development Authority Input
• Remove "develop a local chamber of commerce" from policies and strategies
• Remove "explore opportunities for City-sponsored events"
• Add a goal to "Encourage and assist with new development in Town Center"
• Add apolicy/strategy to "Support a North Star Commuter Rail station in Town
Center"
• Add apolicy/strategy to "Identify, acquire and redevelop underutilized and
blighted properties"
45
