CASE g8

RECODIFICATION OF SIGN ORDINANCE
By: Acting Community Development Director Sylvia Frolik

Background:

As you may recall, on June 5, 1990, the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended that City
Council impose a moratorium on the erection of billboards (off-site advertising signs) until such
time as the sign ordinance recodification is complete.

Observations:

City Attorney Bill Goodrich, together with the City's Attorneys of Holmes and Graven,
determined that such an ordinance to establish a moratorium on the erection of billboards would not
be necessary or appropriate at this time. The City Attorney fn'rn of Holmes and Graven has been
working on the adult entertainment issue. It was also noted that if such a billboard were to be
requested, at that time the City could proceed with the case and the proposed ordinance
amendment.

Recommendation:

Based on your discussion.

Review Checklist:

City Administrator ....
City Attorney
City Engineer
Acting Community Development Director X

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Planning & Zoning Commission
Park & Recreation Commission

X
