The inspection was due to several complaints of smoke <br />being emitted from the control equipment for the aluminum smelter <br />and material removed from the smelter and placed outside. At the <br />time of the inspection, the MPCA staff determined that there were <br />no violations of applicable Minnesota Air Quality Rules. <br /> <br />During the inspection, MPCA staff did observe several pallets of <br />lead-acid batteries being stored outside the building. Please <br />read the enclosed information regarding the storage of these <br />types of batteries. <br /> <br />If you have any questions about battery storage, please contact <br />our Hazardous Waste Division at 296-7790.
