Per~,. g No. 2293-89-0T-1

FACILITY DESCRIPTION

Overview

This facility processes scrap.metal containing aluminum to
separate and recover the aluminum. Materials handled can include
broken or used castings, pistons, transmissions, siding and
punching blanks and other similar aluminum-containing pieces.
The scrap is charged to an aluminum sweat furnace designed to
heat the parts to a high enough temperature to melt only the
aluminum, which flows into a separate chamber from which, it can
be poured into molds. The remaining metals are removed as solids
for recycling. Oil and grease fumes from heating the charge pass
through an afterburner before discharge to the atmosphere.

II.
