Shift is to now looking at individual elements rather than ~creage
(e.g. ~ of softball fields/1000, #of tennis courts/lO00). Problem
is too much geographic/seasonal limitation (i.e Florida vs
Minnesota)

No. of girls now in sports placing additional demands on facilities
particularly soccer, softball, basketball courts. Probably sa~e
to say that will· place a 60% increase on # of playing fields
required in a community.

Previous standards didn't address this type of participation.
Relatively recent phenomenon within last 10 years.

Probably best thing to do is take a look at other communities
w/similar characteristics groWth rate/large lot etc., and see what
is good or bad about the'~ .Determine want to be at same level,
lower, higher and set standard accordingly.

Brought up comm. Lakeville, Plymouth, Eagan, Burnsville as possible
comparisons.

Cliff French has been in Recreation Business over 40 years.
