PURCHASE OF TREES FOR CITY
Dy: Merland Otto

Background:

Dave Hartley and I each received calls from Henry Sandbulte from
Noble Nursery on August 16 regarding the City's interest in
purchasing trees. Attached is a letter and flyer from Mr.
Sandbulte indicating the size and cost of trees which are available
this fall at greatly reduced sale prices (e.g. 2-1/2 to 4" trees
for $90.00).
The Parks Commission has requested in the 1990 budg~l~¥~0~ for
landscaping at Central and Autumn Heights Parks. Whi!e~h~udget
has not yet been approved, there is a continuing demand for trees
at City Parks. As a means of comparison, recent bids on plant
material in this size range have been $225.00 to $375.00.

This offer represents an opportunity to achieve substantially more
"bang for the buck" than we otherwise are able to achieve.
Quotes on similar material were received and the City Co~
authorized the purchase up to $14,999.99 for approxim~tel~ 160I
trees at their August 22nd meeting.

Observation:

Volunteers will be needed to help stake trees approximately mid-
October. At present, trees are planned to be planted in Central,
Autumn Heights, and River's Bend Parks. Mark Boos has indicated
an interest in planting trees at a number of City parks.

Commission Action:
Will be based on your discussion.

Review Checklist:

city Administrator
city Attorney
city Engineer
Community Development Dir.

Chief of Police
Finance officer
Public Works Supt.
Other

X
X
