Motion by Commissioner Shumway and seconded by Commission6, Pralt to recommend that a
traffic signal be erected at the new County Road 116 and Highway 47 intersection wili include a
pedestrian crossing.

Motion carried. Absent: None.

Case #4 Tree installation at City parks.

Mr. Otto explained that the opportunity has presented itself to buy a large quantity of trees at a
great cost savings. Such a purchase was not budgeted for in 1989 but there is a proposal for
$18,500 to be budge[ed for in the 1990 parks budget. City Council has authorized the purchase
of trees in an amount not to exceed $14,999.99. Volunteers will be needed to help stake trees
apprcximately mid-October. The trees are planned for Central, Autumn Heights, and River's
Bend Parks. Mr. Otto informed the Commission that Mr. Boos, Parks Coordinator, has indicated
an interest in planting trees at a number of city parks.

Discussion ensued regarding where the trees should be planted and that the citizens should be
contacted for input. This case was tabled for further discussion.

Case #5 _Update on the installation of park ec!_uipment.

The Commission was informed that there is equipment to be installed at parks, but there hasn't
been the time or the manpower to do it.

Acting Chairman Holland suggested Mr. Boos and Mr. Otto seek volunteers via the Ramsay
Resident to install equipment at parks.

Case #6 _Update status on River's B~nd Park Improvement.

Mr. Otto stated that River's Bend Park improvements have been under construction since July
and it is hoped the project will be complete by the end of September. Rather than pave the
entire access road; the right of way north of County road 116 would be left for about a year
hoping to add to the elevation.

.COMMISSION INPUT

a ) CASE ADDtTI~.N:

Commissioner Shumway asked at a case be added to the agenda regarding rails and the
Commission agreed.

Case #7 Traifways

Motion by Commissioner Shumway and seconded by Acting Chairman Hetland requesting that City
Council and City Staff enter negotiations on three known parcels for trail easements.

PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION/SEPTEMBER 14, 1989
Page 4 of 5
