City of Ramsey 2011 Road Construction
Project: Dysprosium Street Reconstruction
Project ID: City Improvement project #09-25, State Aid Project 199-110-006
Construction Description: The City of Ramsey will be reconstructing Dysprosium Street NW, between
Bunker Lake Boulevard and Nowthen Boulevard, beginning in the summer of 2011. This roadway has been in
poor condition for a number of years. Uncertainty regarding its status as a collector or arterial street has been the primary
reason for postponing costly work on this segment. In addition, it was desired to include improvements that would
change the character of this residential neighborhood, and enhance safety and walk -ability within the Flintwood
Hills neighborhood. The proposed improvements include narrowing the pavement and restricting parking on
the east side of the street, reconstructing the entire pavement section including concrete curb & gutter, adding
six foot wide sidewalks on both sides of the street, adding chokers at prescribed locations for traffic calming
and narrower pedestrian crossings, improved drainage with the addition of storm sewer and catch basins, the
replacement of older undersized watermain, and the installing of street lighting and boulevard trees.
Start Date: July 18, 2011
End Date: October 14, 2011
How traffic is affected: The existing roadways will be open to traffic at all times throughout the project
duration, but with all construction projects delays should be anticipated. We will do our best to ensure the
project is completed as expeditiously as possible, and delays are limited to the extent possible. If there are any
unavoidable interruptions to access at a particular location, those specific individuals will be contacted directly.
Project benefits: Revised neighborhood character to a more residential setting; including reduced pavement
width for traffic calming, improved pedestrian connections, and boulevard lighting and trees. Utility
improvements are also being incorporated for improved drainage, and better water distribution through the area.
Construction Update (10/21/11): This week saw the installation of the boulevard improvements;
including trees, sod, and final touches on the street lighting. Due to limited availability of one species of tree, a
revision was made and the remaining trees will be planted next week. Early next week the contractor will be
raising the public utilities in the streets (gate valves and manholes), and performing spot concrete replacements.
The end of next week will see the installation of the final lift of asphalt and roadway striping, which could spill
into the following week depending on concrete curing time and weather. The project will then be 100%
complete. There are still private utility lines (phone and cable) lying on the ground in some locations and I have
contacted those providers with this update, requesting that they complete their outstanding work on this job
ASAP. We appreciate your continued understanding that this remains a work zone for approximately one more
week, and request you allow a little extra travel time through the area. We also thank you for your patience
through the inconveniences of this construction project. Unless something drastic occurs that warrants an
additional update this will be the final post on the City website regarding this project, but feel free to contact the
City Engineer if you have any questions or concerns.
Contact: Tim Himmer, City Engineer (763) 433-9893 or e-mail thimmer@ci.ramsev.mn.us
Contractor emergency contact number — Travis (320) 980-1551
