All Commission Chairpersons

CC: All Commission Members

FM: Kay McAloney, Personnel Coordinator

RE: Seminar on Parliamentary Procedure

DT: October 2, 1989

The Government Training Service is offering a seminar on Parliamentary Procedure, From
Principles to Practice on January 25, 1990. It will be held at the Earle Brown Continuing
Education Center, 1890 Buford Avenue, in St. Paul. The program will last from 1:00 p.m. until
4:15 p.m.

The Government Training Service is a public, joint powers organization whose mission is to
meet the changing management and leadership needs of policy makers, staff, and appointed
officials by providing practical training and consulting to publicly-funded organizations in
Minnesota. The work session will include a look at the basic principles for using parliamentary
procedures; an examination of the "Why's and How's" of writing a set of group rules; written
exercises that deal with issues such a calculating a forum, methods of voting, best motions; and
an oral practice session which will allow participants to practice the principles.

Please present this information to the remaining members of your commission, to see if there
is any interesl in attending this seminar. I would like to have the list of interested people by
November 15, 1989 so that I can return the registration form. I would also appreciate your
getting back to me even if there is no interest, so I will not be waiting for your response.

Please see me if there are any questions regarding the seminar.

Thanks.

Kay
