Mediation Services <br /> For Anoka County <br /> <br /> 1323 Coon Rapids Blvd. <br /> Coon Rapids, Minnesota 55433 <br /> (612) 755-5300 <br /> <br />1988 ANNUAL REPORT <br /> <br />The goal of MEDIATION SERVICES FOR ANOKA COUNTY Is to <br />provide a forum for the resolution of disputes, proD]ems and <br />concerns using mediation techniques. The following <br />information shows the progress made by MEDIATION SERVICES <br />(MSAC) In 1988 towards this goal, thereby furthering its <br />growth and development as an effective and useful conlnlunity <br />dispute resolution program. <br /> <br />CASELOAD <br /> <br />There are four types of service provided to parties in <br />dispute: <br /> <br />Mediation. When the parties agree to participate, they <br />attend a face-to-face conference with two MSAC volunteer <br />mediators. The role of the mediator is to assist parties in <br />problem Identification and constructive problem solving. <br />The disputing parties maintain control of and responsibility <br />for the conflict and its outcome. <br /> <br />Conciliation. When parties are unwilling to participate in <br />a face-to-face mediation or if the problem is ammenab]e to <br />solution through telephone discussion, an effort Is made to <br />develop at least a partial solution to the problem. <br /> <br />Information and Referral. If a problem cannot be resolved <br />through MSAC services, the parties may be advised about <br />other resources available to them in dealing with the <br />problem. <br /> <br />~ Mediation participants gain skills learned In <br />sessions to deal constructively with future disputes. The <br />staff and several board members provide training and <br />inservice workshops in conflict management. <br /> <br /> <br />
