TO: FROM: DATE: RE: MEMO DAVE HARTLEY MERLAND OTTO February.3, 1989 AIRPORT NOTICE IN DODGE REPORTS You requested information on how the notice for the Gateway Airport Improvement project appeared in Dodge Reports (apparently it was incorrectly referred to as the Builder's Exchange). Dodge Reports supplies a service of tracking projects and proposed projects with their primary market being vendors and suppliers of materials. Dodge Scan and Dodge Reports enjoys a limited clientele of contractors who also use the service for leads on potential projects. They periodically call engineering and architectural firms to ask for information on the status of projects. Such was the case last month when someone called and requested information on airport projects which we were working on. While I don't have a copy of the notice, as I recall the program sequence was correct in the notice and the notice was identified as a planning study. Unfortunately the notice incorrectly reported the program schedule and did not mention that the project was subject to necessary approvals. (I suppose that its taken for~granted that all projects are subject to approval). Attached is a sample of the type of information that such a notice generates. I have never known anyone in the industry to misconstrue or mistakenly identify such a notice as an advertisement~ for bids. It does, however, provide a valid service which enables the design profession to receive additional project information which may be of use and it does give a project more exposure, hence more bidders and lower bids if and when a project goes out for bids.
