1.0 <br /> <br />1.1 <br /> <br />PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED ACTION <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey adopted an Airport Master Plan Study in !9S5 <br />which recommended the acquisition and improvement of Gateway <br />North Industrial Airport. Gateway North has been a privately <br />owned public use facility' which has been in operation since <br />1972. The Airport Layout Plan, developed as a part of the <br />Master Plan Study, was approved by the Federal Aviation Admini- <br />stration (FAA) on July 24, 1987 after acceptance of the airport <br />into the National Plan of Integrated Airports System (NPIAS) on <br />April 8, 1986. <br /> <br />The Master Plan addressed the future activity growth and <br />facility requirements for a 20 year planning period. The major <br />facilities improvements recommended and which this study further <br />addresses are: <br /> <br />Acquisition of approximately 230 acres of land including two <br />commercial establishments and 19 residences to provide public <br />ownership of the airport facility and associated approach <br />zones. <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />Paving and reconfiguration of Runway 16-34 to provide a <br />75'x3300' hard surface runway. <br /> <br />o Development of a parallel and connecting taxiwav system. <br /> <br />o Runway lighting and approach aid improvements. <br /> <br />o Obstruction removal. <br /> <br />o Building area improvements to provide operating and tie down <br /> aprons, hangars, auto parking and airport related activities. <br /> <br />Figure 1-1 illustrates the existing facilities of the airport. <br />The existing facility provides a primary landing strip length of <br />2,500' plus overruns on each end for a maximum takeoff length <br />of 3,580' and a maximum landing length cf 3~260' The crosswind <br />Runway 9-27 provides a maximum landing and takeoff length of <br />2,540' Figure 1-2 illustrates the proposed improvements <br />recommended in the approved Airport Layout Plan with a 3,300' <br />paved runway. <br /> <br />A recent count indicates 27 based aircraft at the airport. Ail <br />of which are single engine aircraft. An estimated 21,000 annual <br />operations occur at the airport based on %he state's latest 5010 <br />estimates (11/25/86). <br /> <br />!-I <br /> <br /> <br />
