April 11, 1989 We are writing you concering the proposed thoroughfare of 153rd Ave. in the cityof Ramsey. The proposed route ~ill skirt and cross a no~ protected wetland ~n our neighborhood. We have enclosed a map of the area we are speaking.of to sho~ you the proposed route. We all have property adjoining this ~etland and many of us work t¢ entrance the wildlife habitat that this wetland provides. The proposed road will be an eighty foot road with a speed limit of approximately ~0 MPH. Weffeel that the construction of the road ~hich involves removing peat, bringing in fill, and all the heavy machinary ~ill be the start of the deterioration of a heavily populated ~ildlife sanctury. There is a variety of wildlife residing in this wetland area such as, owls,ha~ks, bluebirds, snowshoe rabbits, red headed ~oodpecker wood ducks, geese, fo)[, ~oodchuck,deer, goldfinchs, chichadees,, and many more. Clearly, a road of this nature is incompatible with'~much of this delicate wildlife. In addition, ~hen the wetland is filled and the trees, bushes, and grasslands are removed, any wildlife that can live that close to a busy road, will have lost a huge part of their nesting area and their food supply. - We all )[now the importance of keeping our wetlands intact, not only for our~ildlife, but because of the service they provide in the ecology in general. We realize that this is a small piece of land . but never the less it plays a part in the scheme of things and should be considered important. We also believe that there is an alternative to destroying this ~etland. The city is trying to connect 153rd'to !55th at Ramsey Blvd ' By looking at the map you can see that both roads_.~lready hit Ramsey Blvd. less than a 1/4 mile apart. We believe that the minor inconvienence of having one stop sign ~on your ~ay across town is insignificant compared to what will be lost if the wetland is destroyed. Some of the people on this petition will have their property directly affected by th~s"project, but the majority ~i11 not. The true intent of this petion is to protect the wetland and the ~ildlife within it.
