CC Work Session 2. 1.
Meeting Date: 09/24/2013
Information
Title
Receive Presentation by Leigh Lenzmeier, Chair of NorthStar Corridor Development Authority
Purpose
The purpose of this presentation is for Council to receive a general update relating to the Northstar Corridor
Development and the Corridors of Opportunities Study, as well as to participate in conversation relating to keeping
Transit Oriented Development activities going.
Stearns County Commissioner Leigh Lenzmeier, Chair of the NorthStar Corridor Development Authority has
requested time to meet with the Ramsey City Council. Mr. Lenzmeier would like to discuss NorthStar in general,
but more specifically, the hope/intent to keep the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) activities going. He would
like to continue to promote ridership on the NorthStar and anything that will help to grow the ridership. Mr.
Lenzmeier will also be talking about the Corridors of Opportunities study and the role the City played in it.
Attached as background information is a Draft Transit -oriented -development (TOD) Market Analysis that was done
on the Ramsey Station.
From the Northstar Web site:
About Us
In May 1997, 30 counties, cities, townships and regional rail authorities created a joint powers board -- the
Northstar Corridor Development Authority (NCDA) -- to address the need for additional transportation solutions
between St. Cloud and Minneapolis. Over the next decade, the NCDA overcame many hurdles to make the
Northstar Commuter Rail Project a reality. When Northstar service began in November 2009, it became part of
Metro Transit's regional service network, added much needed transportation capacity to the region and created an
easy and safe way for people to travel.
Timeframe
Not applicable.
Funding Source
Not applicable.
Responsible Party(ies)
City Administrator
Outcome
The discussion with the NCDA Chair may identify future actions the City can take to increase and improve
Northstar service and ridershp.
Attachments
Northstar market Study
Form Review
