CASE # 5

REVIEW STATUS OF HOMES IN THE CITY'S MUNICIPAL
WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT THAT DO NOT
HAVE REMOTE READERS INSTALLED
By: Sandra Ashley, Finance Officer

Background:

The City requires that remote readers shall be installed with each meter for homes within the
City's municipal water and sewer district. Remote readers facilitate the reading of water
meters without gaining access to the home; this results in a minimum of employee cost to the
City for meter reading. Conlractors and/or their agents are issued a remote reader, along with
instructions for installation, at the same time the water meters are issued.

City Staff recently established a procedure whereby the Building Official notifies the
Parks/Utilities Coordinator when a final plumbing inspection has been made; the
Parks/Utilities Coordinator then verifies that the remote reader is operative. Prior to this new
procedure, many homes were finaled without an operative remote.

The Parks/Utilities Coordinator has connected and/or repaired many remote readers within the
system during the past year. The Building Official and the Finance Office have notified builders
of homes without a remote installed of the City's requirement, and in most instances the
builders have made arrangements for installation of same.

There are currently five (5) homes within the sewer/water district that do not have remote
readers installed:

Account
Number Service Address

Builder/Address

007

14337 Waco Street NW

R.W.
