19. Pbv£ical A/tera./c: cf ~etlan~

The proposed road alignment crosses two protected wetlands
~57W and ilgY. The total area of wetlands impacted by this
alignment is approximately 2.3 acres. It is intended tc
n. inimize the impact on the wetlands and associated wildlife
by avoiding construction in the wetlands during the prime
nesting period. The City is assessing the possibilities of
scheduling construction through the wetland areas over la~e
winter 1990. The majority of the construction over the
remainder of the prcject is scheduled to commence in May. if
such a schedule cannot be accomplished, the work within the
wetland areas can occur after nesting seasoL. %:ne wetlands
are dr]' with no water currently at the surface. The depth of
organic soils in the easterly wetland (ii4P) is estimated to
be approximately 2-3' The depth of peat in 675W is estimated
to be approximately the same. The amount of excavation for
the roadbed itself is estimated to be 6700 CY from l14P and
approximately 1600 CY from 657W. Preliminary design efforts
will look at the possibility of using geotextile fabric and
surcharging the peat rather than excavating all peat areas.
Peat which is excavated will be used to enhance another
wetland basin or be stockpiled, drained, and used as a soil
modifier in topsoils.

The contractor will be required to comply with an erosion and
sediment control plan which will minimize the disturbance to
the adjoining wetland areas. At a minimum, the Contractor
will be required to adhere to a "least damage" schedule,
install silt fence and barriers to control spillage and
erosion from nhe project area, and reestablish ground cover
as soon as practicable after grading. ~ere peat is excavated
and stockpiled, temporary dikes will be created to control
sediment laden runoff from entering into surface waters.

viii
