<br />PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER AS
<br />GREATER ANOKA COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY MONTH
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Greater AnoKa County Humane Soc~eb,., wa.~ eslabhsned 16, years ago
<br />using volunteers' homes to prowoe shelter to a small number of stray ammals; one,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, two years ago the Humane Society built a shelter lc mee~, tr~e growing needs
<br />for the,r services; and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, now, the Humane Society, utihzin~ a nelwork of over 100 voiunleers, cares for
<br />an average of up to 150 ammals per cay with over 50 percent per month being adopted out lc
<br />new homes; and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, as the demand lot services continues to grow the shelter needs 1.o build
<br />additional holding pens and exercise areas 1or the ammals; and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, i~ is a priman/goal oi the Humane Society le increase public awareness in the
<br />schools and the community to the ,mpo,'lance o' proper care tot ammals; and.,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, in an effort IO raise lunos for the building additions and the public outreach,
<br />the Humane Society is hostm2 a 5K Walk/Run/Roll For Homeless Animals on Saturday,
<br />September 23, 1989 al Bunker Hills Regional Park; and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Anoka County Board of Commissioners supports the Humane Society's
<br />goals and fundraising efforts because they will result in betler care tot animals:

<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE FI' RESOLVED thai the Anoka County. Board of Commissioners
<br />c~oes proclaim the Month o! September as Greater Anoka Count, Humane Society Month
<br />tnrougho~ Anoka County and encourages increased public awareness of the services provicied
<br />by the non-profit organization:

<br /> BE iT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Anoka County Board o', Commissioners encourages
<br />people to participate in the 5K Walk/Run'Roll For Homeless Animals by entering the race or by
<br />contributing pledges in order to help the Humane Society provide the proper care for abandoned
<br />
<br />and stray animals in our County.
