Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #89-11- RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE TO ASSIGN CITY OF RAMSEY ITS OWN ZIP CODE WHEREAS, postal delays, higher insurance rates and confusion occur when ZIP Code boundaries are inconsistent with Municipal boundaries; and WHEREAS, a recent survey by the National League of Cities found that more than 200 cities and towns in at least 36 states are experiencing problems due to inconsistencies between actual and mailing addresses; and WHEREAS, planning for the future of the City depends on, in part, sales tax and employment figures which are derived from state agencies using ZIP Codes as a means of organizing their information by cities; and WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey estimates the 1989 population at nearly 13,000 people; and WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey is bounded by the Rum River on the East, the Mississippi River on the South and the County boundary (which is also a regional boundary) on the West; and WHEREAS, an individualized ZIP Code for the City of Ramsey is a simple and effective way to enhance the City's individual identity. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: 1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby requests the U.S. Postal Sen, ice to assign the City of Ramsey its own individual ZIP Code. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: and the following voted against the same: and the following abstained: and the following were absent: whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this the 28th day of November 1989.
