Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #89-11- <br /> <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE TO ASSIGN CITY <br />OF RAMSEY ITS OWN ZIP CODE <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, postal delays, higher insurance rates and confusion occur when ZIP <br />Code boundaries are inconsistent with Municipal boundaries; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a recent survey by the National League of Cities found that more <br />than 200 cities and towns in at least 36 states are experiencing problems due to inconsistencies <br />between actual and mailing addresses; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, planning for the future of the City depends on, in part, sales tax and <br />employment figures which are derived from state agencies using ZIP Codes as a means of <br />organizing their information by cities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey estimates the 1989 population at nearly 13,000 <br /> <br />people; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey is bounded by the Rum River on the East, the <br />Mississippi River on the South and the County boundary (which is also a regional boundary) on <br />the West; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, an individualized ZIP Code for the City of Ramsey is a simple and <br />effective way to enhance the City's individual identity. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br /> 1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby requests the U.S. Postal Sen, ice to assign <br />the City of Ramsey its own individual ZIP Code. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br /> and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />and the following voted against the same: <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br />and the following were absent: <br /> <br />whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this <br />the 28th day of November 1989. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br />City Administrator <br /> <br /> <br />
