stated they have no conflict with other municipalities and Ramsey is their number one <br />responsibility. He stated that while he represents Linwood and Bethel, they are small cities with <br />limited commitment. <br />Mr. Haag stated all of their staff understand that Ramsey is the number one priority for this firm <br />and on more than one occasion, they have reminded staff of that commitment. He stated they <br />look forward to the opportunity to continue working with Ramsey. <br />Mr. Goodrich stated they also have a dedicated assistant to handle Ramsey's prosecutions. <br />Mr. VanThomme stated there will not be another firm interviewed with the unique mix within <br />this firm or that has the different and adequate experience. He stated they would like to continue <br />serving Ramsey with civil and prosecuting services. <br />BERGLUND & BERGLUND (Civil and Criminal) <br />Describe the back • ounds o the civil and/or rosecutin • attorne s who will be assi ned to <br />Ramsey. <br />John Berglund stated he has been practicing since 1975, owns a private practice, and lived in <br />Andover at same house since 1989. He has four grown children and seven grandchildren. John <br />Berglund stated he had served as the Ham Lake City Attorney and did most of their prosecuting <br />at that time. His law practice is now doing more probate and real estate work with the vast <br />majority being in the field of real estate to represent developers, contractors, and individuals who <br />sell their land for development. He stated Bill Goodrich is one of the owners of the building in <br />which their firm is located. John Berglund stated they do not represent any other city at this time <br />and had not made an effort to represent cities; however, did make this application several years <br />ago. John Berglund stated they have done a lot of work with municipalities to draft ordinances, <br />HRA, EDA, and plat property. He stated Mark Berglund, his son, is doing most of the trial work <br />at this time, but he has handled hundreds of court cases and dozens of jury trials. He stated how <br />you handle the criminal justice system is important to keep residents safe. John Berglund stated <br />if appointed, they would assure a good relationship and he would attend most of the Council <br />meetings as well as other meetings of staff and Mark Berglund would do the majority of the <br />criminal work. <br />Mark Berglund stated he graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School and has <br />practiced law since 2004. He had a judicial externship that involved a criminal rotation in <br />Hennepin County where judges take a certain type of case for an extended period of time unlike <br />Anoka County where judges rotate types of cases weekly. Since law school, he has been in the <br />criminal defense area and was part of a Criminal Defense Clinic while in Law School under the <br />supervision of a college professor. Mark Berglund stated he also clerked with injury <br />prosecutions and then he was asked to join his father's legal firm so he now does all of the <br />criminal defense work, personal injury work, and litigation matters (real estate and /or probate). <br />Mark Berglund stated he handled a jury trial for the City of Ramsey, on short notice, in a case <br />involving a defendant who had assaulted his wife but the wife said she fell and was injured when <br />she hit the television so the man was acquitted.
