MISSISSIPPI TRAIL CORRIDOR UPDATE & REVIEW OF
ALTERNATIVE ALIGNMENTS

by: Merland Otto

Background:

On December 19, 1989, the Council adopted a plan illustrating the
general alignment and trail widths for the Mississippi Corridor
Trail. Ordinance 89- was introduced at that meeting after
discussion of comments received from Anoka County and Metropolitan
council staff.

The Council requested that the introduced ordinance be transmitted
to Metropolitan Council for any further comments prior to adoption.
We have not yet received their comments but expect to receive them
prior to the 23rd meeting.

Anoka County Parks had previously indicated that they had no
comments or concerns regarding the proposed ordinance and trail
plan.

Per our latest disCussion at the December 19, 1989 meeting, we
revised the trail plan to show a northern limit for alternative
alignments through the area west of Alpaca Estates and an
alternative southern limit for the segment west of the Wayside
Park. We have requested comments from Anoka County on this latest
plan. Ron Cox of Anoka County Parks, stated that he had no problem
with such a concept.

Enclosed for your information are:

1)
2)

Ordinance 89-
Trail plan adopted 12/19/89.

Observation:

A trail corridor (agreeable to all parties) has to be agreed upon
as a condition of the remaining 200 acres being approved for the

The parks comprehensive plan is in the process of being revised.
Appropriate amendments pertaining to the Mississippi River Corridor
Trail will be incorporated in those changes.
