CITY OF RAMSEY VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR <br />By: Dave Hartley, City Administrator <br /> <br />CASE <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />March 4 - 11, 1990 was Volunteer of America Week and has been recognized by the City of <br />Ramsey. As our part in Volunteer of America Week, the City Council of Ramsey will choose a <br />person to be nominated as Volunteer of the Year for the City of Ramsey. <br /> <br />At the last Council meeting, Councilmembers were instructed to call in names to be considered for <br />such nomination. Staff was also asked to suggest names of individuals who have contributed their <br />time, effort and energies to help others. The following names have been suggested: <br /> <br />Natalie Steffen. tn addition to serving as Anoka County Commissioner, Natalie <br />Steffen has become involved in fund raisers for the Humane Society, has provided <br />assistance to seniors in the preparation of income tax returns, and has participated in the <br />nationally recognized effort to clean up the Rum River. <br /> <br />Bruce Hoeke. Bruce Hoeke has accepted the position of Fire Chief of the City of <br />Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department, an organization Which is now being created for the <br />first time to provide fire protection and emergency services for the City of Ramsey. <br />Mr. Hoeke spends anywhere from four to six hours daily coordinating, planning and <br />leading the enormous effort of establishing a volunteer fire department in the City of <br />Ramsey. As a retired telecommunications worker, Bruce has offered advice and <br />technical assistance to the City of Ramsey in matters relating to telecommunications. <br />When asked "Why do you spend so much time at the job of Fire Chief?." Mr. Hoeke <br />responded "It's just one way that I can give back to this community a little of what I've <br />received in the past". <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to adopt Resolution g00-03-.. <br />Ramsey Volunteer of the Year. <br /> <br />recognizing as City of <br /> <br />Review Checklist: <br /> <br />City Administrator <br />City Attorney <br />City Engineer <br />Community Development Director <br /> <br />Chief of Police <br />Finance Officer <br />Planning & Zoning Comm. <br />Park & Recreation Comm. <br /> <br />LA'. <br /> <br /> <br />
