CITY OF RAMSEY VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR By: Dave Hartley, City Administrator CASE Background: March 4 - 11, 1990 was Volunteer of America Week and has been recognized by the City of Ramsey. As our part in Volunteer of America Week, the City Council of Ramsey will choose a person to be nominated as Volunteer of the Year for the City of Ramsey. At the last Council meeting, Councilmembers were instructed to call in names to be considered for such nomination. Staff was also asked to suggest names of individuals who have contributed their time, effort and energies to help others. The following names have been suggested: Natalie Steffen. tn addition to serving as Anoka County Commissioner, Natalie Steffen has become involved in fund raisers for the Humane Society, has provided assistance to seniors in the preparation of income tax returns, and has participated in the nationally recognized effort to clean up the Rum River. Bruce Hoeke. Bruce Hoeke has accepted the position of Fire Chief of the City of Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department, an organization Which is now being created for the first time to provide fire protection and emergency services for the City of Ramsey. Mr. Hoeke spends anywhere from four to six hours daily coordinating, planning and leading the enormous effort of establishing a volunteer fire department in the City of Ramsey. As a retired telecommunications worker, Bruce has offered advice and technical assistance to the City of Ramsey in matters relating to telecommunications. When asked "Why do you spend so much time at the job of Fire Chief?." Mr. Hoeke responded "It's just one way that I can give back to this community a little of what I've received in the past". Council Action: Motion to adopt Resolution g00-03-..
