The inclusion of Gateway North Industrial Airport on the National Plan of
Integrated Systems (NPIAS) indicates there is federal interest in the Gateway
North Industrial Airport as part of the a system which has b~en established to
meet present and future needs of civil aeronautics. It also indicates that
the airport is qualified to apply for Federal funds for airport improvement
purposes. These funds, from the Airport Improvement Program, may or may not
be granted depending upon availability of funds, competition for funds, etc.

CONCLUSION

T~e construction of the proposed 'Site P landfill would have significant envi-
ronmental impacts on the Gateway North Industrial Airport. The landfill, due
to its close proximity to the airport, would create hazards which have been
found by FAA to be incompatible with airport operations. These hazards are
discussed in FAA Order 5200.5 and Advisory Circular 150/5300-4B, Change 8. As
a result, FAA would not approve federal funding for airport improvements at
Gateway North Industrial Airport if the proposed landfill were constructed.

Continued operation of ~he'airport appears, to be contingent upon FAA funding.
I~ funding is not provided, in all likelihood the airport, which has been
found to be a significant a~rport by its inclusion in the NPIAS and Metropoli-
tan Airport's Systems Regional Plan, will close.

R/A/BB4
