Box 14, ELK RIVER, MINNESOTA 55330 <br /> RECEIVED <br /> JUN 2 8 FJgO <br /> <br /> The EJk River Tennis Association is affiliated with the USTA/NJTL, a national network which i$ the <br />governing body for tennis in the United States. The ERTA is a nonprofit organization serving the Elk <br />River community and its surrounding area. <br /> <br /> The overall goal of the ERTA is to promote awareness, interest, and opportunity for tennis in the Elk <br />River community for all ages and levels of play. Also, it is to provide safe conditions and sites on which <br />to participate. <br /> <br /> ERTA will derive its income from private sector, business and individual contributions, USTA na- <br />tional grants, player registration fees, and ERTA projects. <br /> <br /> Objectives of ERTA: <br /> <br />--to repair and resurface the existing 10 tennis courts by the fall of 1990 <br /> <br />--to build tennis backboards/hitting boards at the Elk River courts to accommodate players practicing strokes individually <br /> <br />--to repair the existing lighting system at all Elk River courts to allow for evening play <br /> <br />--to establish a National Junior Team Tennis League for children in grades 7-12 who wish to develop tennis skills and compete regularly against players of their own level during the summer <br /> <br />--to provide a National Junior Tennis League for six weeks during the summer for novice players who wish to develop skills and understand strategy without competing <br /> <br /> Pee Wee/Short Course tennis in the local schools and in <br /> provide <br /> elementary <br /> community <br /> parks <br /> order to create interest and develop skills at a young age with the use of modified equipment and <br /> games <br /> <br />--to sponsor youth and adult evening lessons through community education for six weeks during the summer <br />--to encourage an area Volvo Tennis League <br /> <br />--to sponsor USTA sanctioned tournaments <br /> <br />--to build new tennis courts at Salk Jr. High <br /> <br />--to strive for discounts at local clubs <br /> <br /> The Elk River Tennis Association will work closely with the Elk River Community Education and <br />School District 728 to raise funds for maintenance and repair of the 10 existing courts in Elk River. <br />Communications will take place through Community Education bulletins, the Elk River Star News, <br />school announcements, bulletins and the coaching staff in order to attract people who otherwise <br />might not play in a constructive summer program. The USTA will help fund PeeWee/Short course <br />tennis and will try to initiate tennis into the physical education curriculum of District 728. <br /> <br /> Programs will be offered at various times in order to accommodate people's work schedules. <br /> <br /> The program will be evaluated annually by reports to ERTA members and the USTA regarding fi- <br />nancial program status. <br /> <br /> Through the ERTA we hope to bring the lifetime sport of tennis into the lives of young and old in our <br />community. <br /> <br />Member of USTA <br /> <br /> <br />
