The reason, as stated in the August 1, 1990 issue of the Elk <br />River.Star News is to "... make it more competitive with other <br />landfills, after being told the landfill would have to go out of business <br />if it didn't have the business from Hennepin County." <br /> <br />As a point of clarification, when the surcharge fee was adopted by <br />our City, it was adopted based upon a per cubic yard fee. The above <br />numbers are stated per ton as these are the numbers published in <br />the newspaper. The rate per ton was determined by multiplying the <br />rate per cubic yard times 3.3. <br /> <br />I spoke to Lori Johnson, Finance Officer at Elk River, this morning and <br />confirmed the above numbers. Lor/ also stated that the City's action <br />to cut the surcharge was effective for sixty days only. <br /> <br />For your reading, attached are copies of two articles pertaining to the <br />surcharge issue that were published in the August 1, 1990 Elk River <br />Star News. <br /> <br /> <br />
