I I I I I I I I case REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION GATEWAY NORTH INDUSTRIAL AIRPORT By: Merland Otto Background: At the July 10, 1990 City Council meeting, Councilmember Pearson requested an update on estimated costs of owning and operating a publicly owned airport. The Master Plan Study indicated O & M costs at about $17,000 per year based on comparably sized airports with similar facilities. Jackson and Red Wing, however, have no taxiway. Red Wing also does not have REILS or VASI. Thus, with the proposed development at Gateway, it can be expected that O & M costs would be about 10% higher or about $17,000 a year subject to inflation and additional building area development. This figure is approximately 1.5% of Stage I construction costs excluding acquisition, and thus appears to be reasonable. Major expense items will be: Mowing Snow Removal Electrical Repair & Electricity Insurance Pavement Maintenance (crack sealing, friction seal coating) Building Maintenance Equipment Rental (if necessary)" Since 1984, Princeton and Red Wing Airports have been improved with lighting, navaids and runway extensions. Thus, their operating costs have also increased.
