A. Prepare all joints in accordance with manufacturer's recommended instructions <br />to ensure maximum adhesion. Prime as required, protecting all adjacent exposed <br />surfaces. <br />3.3 INSTALLATION <br />A. Backer rod shall be installed using only blunt or rounded tools which will ensure <br />a uniform (+ or -1/8") depth without puncturing the material. Backer rod shall <br />be a minimum of 33% oversized for closed cell and minimum of 50% oversized <br />for open cell backer rod, unless otherwise required by the manufacturer. <br />B. Surrounding surface shall be protected as required to ensure that no sealant <br />contaminates these surfaces. <br />C. Sealant shall be prepared as required, including proper mixing of multi - <br />component sealants, then installed in accordance with manufacturer's <br />recommendations and instructions in order to ensure proper width/depth ratio. <br />Take all necessary steps to prevent three sided adhesion. Sealant depth shall be <br />one half of joint width, with a minimum depth of 1/4", and a maximum of 1/2", <br />unless otherwise required by the manufacturer. <br />D. Both temperature and dampness conditions may restrict application of these <br />sealants. Comply with manufacturer's instructions. <br />3.4 SCHEDULE <br />A. Extreme movement sealants (10% or -50% movement capability): <br />1. S-6: Vertical/horizontal joint, such as expansion joints, precast planks, <br />and prestressed concrete joints. <br />B. Significant movement sealants (+25% or -25% movement capability): <br />1. S-1, S-3, or S-6: Vertical or inclined joints such as panel, coping, <br />expansion, precast planks, and prestressed concrete joints, and sloped <br />pavement. <br />2. S-10: Horizontal joints exposed to fuel or gas spillage. <br />3. S-1, S-2, S-3, S-4, S-6, S-7: Horizontal joints not exposed to fuel or gas <br />spillage. <br />C. Minimal movement sealants (+25% or -25% movement capability): <br />1. S-1, S-3, S-4, S-6: Vertical or inclined joints such as perimeters of doors, <br />windows, wall penetrations. <br />2. S-2, S-5: Horizontal joints not exposed to fuel or gas spillage. <br />D. Glazing sealants: <br />1. S-7, S-8: Structural glazing (requires pre -testing and prior written <br />approval from the sealant manufacturer before specifying). <br />2. S-7, S-8: Non-structural. <br />07900-4 <br />
