Friday, Oct. 18, 2013
Members of the Anoka Women of Today raised $1,000
and donated more than 100 volunteer hours to re-
plant Fox Park in Ramsey, where the park's trees had
to be removed because they were located too close to
overhead power lines. Photo submitted
Volunteer group partners
to replant Ramsey park
Fox Park located at
17100 Potassium St. NW
Ramsey,_suffered the loss
of over 30 full grown
trees and evergreens due
to new regulations with
overhead power lines.
The new requirements
under this regulation
state that there can be
no trees over a certain
height within 75 feet on
each side of the power
lines. Unfortunately for
Fox Park, this included
most of its natural habi-
tat.
The Anoka Women
of Today, a volunteer
group, took action to
help rehabilitate the
park with new plantings.
Working closely with the
Ramsey Park and Recre-
ation Board and Green
Valley Garden Center,
the Anoka Women of
Today were able to raise
just. over $1,000 for re-
planting Fox Park.
Volunteers planted
about 100 perennials,
seven trees and eight
shrubs bringing back
some of the beauty the
park lost Iast fall. There
are now perennial gar-
dens and trees planted to
help attract smaller wild-
life back into the park.
The Anoka Women
of Today are participat-
ing in the city of Ramsey
adopt -a -spot program
and have sponsored Fox
Park. This project and its
fundraising efforts have
totaled over 100 volun-
teer hours.
