Park and Recreation Commission
Meeting Date: 11/14/2013
By: Mark Riverblood, Engineering/Public
Works
Information
Title:
Recognize Anoka Women of Today's Volunteer Contributions for Fox Park
5. 1.
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to recognize Ramsey resident Brook Beaton's organizational accomplishments on
landscape improvements to Fox Park. As the Commission will recall, Ms. Beaton sought the city's approval to add
appropriate plantings in the park following Excel Energy's removal of the Scotch and Red Pine under the power line
on the south side of the park.
Since Brook met with the Commission, she and the Anoka Women of Today raised over $1,000 in plant materials
with the help and donations from Green Valley Greenhouse, a Ramsey business approximately one mile to the
northwest. Following that her group commenced planting in the park, tallying over 100 hours of volunteer
contributions.
If that were not enough, the Anoka Women of Today went on to commit to more community stewardship at Fox
Park through the city's Adopt -a -Spot program. Attached are several photos from the planting day, and the Anoka
County Union article on the group and their accomplishments.
Notification:
Observations/Alternatives:
Funding Source:
No funding is required, rather this case recognizes important donations of labor, shrubs and perennials for Fox Park.
Recommendation:
Action:
No action is required.
'Before' and 'after'
Adopt -a -Spot
Sign planting
Group photo
Union article
Attachments
Form Review
Inbox Reviewed By Date
Grant Riemer Grant Riemer 11/08/2013 11:13 AM
Form Started By: Mark Riverblood Started On: 11/08/2013 09:38 AM
Final Approval Date: 11/08/2013
