I I i ! CASE PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT FOR THE RAMSEY FIRE DEPARTMENT By: Dave Griffin, Fire Chief Background: The following is a list of equipment that is needed by the Fire Department. This equipment was not included in the 1990 budget. Ouanfi .ty Price Total 1) Compressor 1 $6,943/ea $6,943 The department needs this compressor to safely train all members on practical use of the self-contained breathing apparatus and allow the trucks to be equipped with full air tanks at all times. The current system does not offer the ability to fill the empty tanks, and this requires that Ramsey purchase an air filling service. 2) personal Gear 4 sets 822/ea 3,288 The department has expanded its membership since the last purchase of personal gear. It has now become essential for the safety of the new members that they be provided with personal gear. 3) Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (S.C.B,A,5) 3 1,070/ea The current quantity of S.C.B.A.s is limiting the effectiveness of fire suppression to exterior attacks only. It is necessary to equip the department with additional S.C.B.A.s for interior rescue and suppression along with the back-up personnel support. 3,210 4) 24" Portable Gas Fan 1 1,295/ea 1,295 The versatility, combined with the additional horse-power, will allow the 24" gas fan to be standard equipment for use in positive ventilation. 5) Heat Detection Unit 1 750/ea 750 Heat detection units are designed to identify inner wall fires which are often associated with wood burning chimney fires. These units prevent unnecessary damage to property and reduce the threat of return calls to the same location due to hidden hot spots. Total Requested $15,486 Due to time constraints, this request has not been presented to the Fire Board for discussion. We must have this equipment in place on or before the first of the year. The Finance Officer is preparing a recap of the start-up costs for the Fire Department. This recap will be available at the meeting. /ant}
