COMMENT8

Dale McKusick
RAMSEY FIRE DEPARTMENT

RE: Relocation of Aluminum Recycling, Inc.
to 14280 Sunfish Lake Blvd.. Ramsay, MN

Mr. Glen Rychner was not available at the time I visited A.R.I., 700
Industrial Blvd., Ramsey, MN, on December 4, 1990, at 3 pm, but I was
introduced to the company foreman. He was nice enough to explain and
show me the operations without any reservations to the possibility of
a conflict with our city and state fire codes. I had a real positive
feeling with the personnel and no problem asking specific questions in
regard to fire saftey in the future proposed site in Ramsey.

The meltings'system at ARI is completely enclosed with no visible flames
or ash. This is different type off'system that is presently in operation
in Ramsey. Being an outside operation, I was concerned about the pos-
sibility of a fire in the wet lands directly behind the property.

Listed below are some concerns that I do have:

1. The possibility of having a spark Arrester type system on top of
the chimmney.

2. Sufficient supply of fire extinguishers located throughout the
recycling yard (U.F.C. Codes).

3. Properly planned and maintained "Fire Lanes" extending from the
front of the property to the back for fire equipment.

The ash dump site or cooling container should have some]type of
a enclosure or lid to prevent the possibility of hot flying ash
to leave the container and possibly start a grass or structure fire.

A site plan should be put on file with an emergency pre-plan for
emergency fire department use. This should include telephone
numbers of employees that could be contacted in case of a fire.

If you have any further questions or concerns that I can be of assistance
with, please feel free to contact me.

Kind regards,

Dale McKusick
Ramsey Fire Dept.
