CHARTER COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS
BY: Kay McAloney, Personnel Coordinator

CASE # ~,

Background:

The Charter Commission was established prior to the adoption of the City's Charter and remains
an active body as long as it meets at a minimum of once per year. The terms of the members on .the
Charter Commission can span no more than two 4-year terms. Consequently, there is one position
on the Charter Commission that is vacant. There are also two positions with terms that have
expired, Ms. Barbara Graen and Mr. Bernard Steffen. It is in the best interest of the City of
Ramsey to have an active Charter Commission in the event that minor modifications to the City's
Charter are desired. Therefore, the City Council should consider possible nominations to be
submitted to the Chief District Court Justice who appoints Charter Commission members.

An advertisement was placed in the Ramsey Resident Report to fill the vacancy and two letters of
application have been received. Both Mr. Goode and Mr. Nelson have been contacted and
encouraged to attend the Council meeting to be interviewed by Councilmembers. Their letters of
application have been attached for reviewal.

Council Action:

Motion to appoint/not appoint to the Charter Commission to a term expiring 5-12-
93. Motion to reappoint/not reappoint Ms. Barbara Graen and Mr. Bernard Steffen to the Charter
Commission to expire 5-12-93. Personnel Coordinator Kay McAloney will submit a letter to the
Chief District Court Justice in the appointment and the reappointments.

Review Checklist:

Acting City Administrator
Personnel Coordinator

CC:4/9/91
