I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

I

CASE

GAME FAIR UPDATE
By: Ryan R. Schroeder, City Administrator

Background:

Recently the question has been asked as to what the City involvement is with the annual Game
Fair. According to the City Engineer, the Public Works Department places and removes the "no
parking" signs along Armstrong Boulevard N.W. and four large "no parking on City streets during
Game Fair" signs. We obtain the paper "no parking" signs from the County and the large signs
from the City of Anoka. The signs are placed prior to the first Game Fair weekend and taken
down after the second weekend. It is estimated that the two-man crew spends approximately one-
half day placing and removing these signs.

Regarding parking at Central Park, enclosed for your review is a special use permit agreement
dated July, 1985, which directed that parking occur at Cenlxal Park. It is staff understanding that
vehicles are charged in the neighborhood of $2.00 each to park. Fees are collected by the Ramsey
and Anoka Lions Clubs and proceeds are divided equally between the Ramsey Lions, Anoka
Lions, the RYAA and Armstrong Kennels (to defray cO§t of providing a shuttle bus between the
parking lot and the Game Fair). Presently, we have not conducted an analysis as to whether the
parking of these vehicles at Central Park negatively impacts the park to a degree to which the
Council ought to be concerned. We also have not given any thought to the extent of positive public
relations received by the City of Ramsey due to the Game Fair. It is assumed, however, that this
would be substantial. The one obvious concern is that the City Council continue to encourage the
operator to improve the visibility of the City of Ramsey upon his marketing materials.

Recommendation:
Based on discussion.

Council Action:

Based on discussion.

I

I
i

Review Checklist:

City Administrator
City Engineer
Public Works Supervisor

I
