This property borders a child care
center, that both my children attend, with a playground adjacent to the West wall of the building. A childcare center is a supposed
to be a safe haven for children outside of the home while parents are at work adding a gun range next door adds a level of
uneasiness for me as a parent. Keep in mind these children are also being taught basic skills at this center so it is also a school
readiness program in a way. Would it be a wise choice to have a gun range 20-30 yards from Ramsey Elementary or PACT
charter school or any school for that matter? I think there are many other viable options in the city to house a gun range, however,
this is not one of those locations. I don't feel my children, being raised in Ramsey, should have to hear gunshots while playing
outside on the playground. I have spent my entire life in Ramsey and chose to raise my children here to avoid this exact thing. I
don't want to have to my 4 and 2 year olds being afraid of the random gun shot noises, at this age they don't understand the
dangers of guns without being properly educated as an avid hunter that is something I would like to do myself when they
become old enough to hunt with me and pass their firearm safety/field classes.
If this gun range is allowed to operate on the aforementioned property, I would have a few questions.
1. Is firearm safety certification required for everyone to use a gun if they were born after the required date?
2. Are all firearms used at the gun range registered with the city, county or state law enforcement agencies?
3. What type of modifications will be done to the existing structure to meet safety standards?
4. Will there be sound proofing?
If this is the route the city is going to go, why not choose a parcel of land not right next to a current business let alone a childcare
center.
You as a council have the authority to approve or deny any request for a new private business in the City of Ramsey. Please
make the right choice and deny the current proposed location. A childcare center has much more value and benefit to the city than
a gun range.
Thank you,
Kyle Althouse
Kyle Althouse
IT Training Manager
i NAU Country Insurance Company
Direct: 763.486.1687
Fax: 763.427.6473
Email: Kyle.Althouse(anaucountry,com
Web: www.naucountrv.com
COUNTRY
This electronic message from NAU Country Insurance Company and any attachment to it is intended exclusively for the individual
or entity to which it is addressed.
