Adopted: XXXXXXXXX
PARTICIPATION IS AND WILL REMAIN VOLUNATARY: The City's participation in the
GreenStep Cities program will continue as long as the program remains voluntary. The City is not
interested in participation if, at any time, the City would be obligated or mandated to implement one (1)
or more actions.
POSITIVE MARKETING FOR THE CITY: Participation in the GreenStep Cities program can and will
be used to positively promote the City as a desirable location for a home or business. Participation in
the program immediately results in the City being recognized as a GreenStep City and, based on actions
that the City has already implemented over the years, the City may already have achieved Step 2. These
accomplishments will be incorporated into marketing materials to help attract future residential and
commercial growth, which will expand the City's tax base.
PROGRAM IS A RESOURCE: Participation in the GreenStep Cities program will be leveraged for
access to additional resources. This is beneficial for multiple reasons. First, the City will have access to
individuals that have knowledge and experience in one or more of the Best Practices and will be able to
answer questions and assist with determining benefits of a particular action. Secondly, having access to
these additional resources will limit the amount of Staff time necessary in researching costs, outcomes
and benefits of any particular action.
AUTHORITY: While the EPB will serve as the primary advisor on elements of the GreenStep Cities
program, the City Council has final authority in determining whether any particular action should be
further researched and vetted and ultimately whether a particular action will be implemented.
Guiding Principles for Participation in the GreenStep Cities Program Page 2 of 2
