February 3rd, 2013
Little Me Childcare Center 2 Inc
6013 167th Ave NW
Ramsey, MN 55303
Hello, my name is Amber Brick. I am the owner of a childcare center located in Ramsey MN.
I'm writing this letter in regards to an approval of a conditional use permit granted by the City of
Ramsey for a business Total Defense located at 6001 167th Ave NW, Ramsey, MN. I am contacting you
because I am concerned about the facility having an indoor shooting range located 50 feet away from
my facility which houses 40 children ages from 6 weeks — kindergarten. Do to the resent fear of
firearms in proximity of children this could have a serious impact on my business and the safety of
children in my care.
My major concerns of this business so close to Little Me Childcare Center 2 Inc are as follows:
1) General fear of my parents and staff to the proximity of the discharge of firearms.
* Do to the resent school shootings parents are much more mindful of firearms in proximity of their
children. Parents entrust me with their children safety, and how safe can they feel when guns are being
bought, sold, traded and fired within 50 feet of my facility.
2) The prospective advertizing of guns and the shooting range.
* The idea of having large signs that state guns and shooting within 50 feet of my front door doesn't
give me, my customers and prospective customers a safe feeling.
3) The sound of gun fire that will be able to be heard from the outside of the building
* The sound of gun fire will be heard from the front door of my facility and outside play area as
mentioned in the report listed in the City of Ramsey website titled
• Staff Report from January 31st, 2013 Planning Commission Discussion on page 3 of
the report.
4) The customers carrying of firearms to and from vehicles to the facility.
* The carrying of concealed and unconcealed firearms in plain view of customers and children.
5) The safety of the children located in our outdoor play area located between these two
buildings.
* The general fear of our children being exposed to the sight and sounds of firearms.
6) Violation of Gun Free School Zone Act 18 U.S.C. 922 (q)
*Although this Act is not law, I would like to point out this even though this Act is deemed
unconstitutional congress and the community felt it was important enough to keep guns 1000 ft away
from my type of facility.
Me and my staff have put a lot of hard work into this childcare facility. We take a lot of pride in
what we have done to make this a safe and happy place for families to attend. The shooting range going
in next door will take the sense of security away from my staff, families and myself. I do not feel that a
childcare center will survive in this location if a shooting range were to open next door. Me and my 8
employees depend on this facility for our families financial well being. I'm troubled by the disregard of
my business and children being so close to this facility. I would hope that in good conscience you will
reconsider the conditional use permit that has been approved by the city.
Amber Brick ( Little Me Child Care Center 2 Inc.)
