CASE #1

SIGNS FOR THE CITY OF RAMSEY ENTRANCES
By: James Gromberg, Project Manager

Background:

At the August 14, 1991 meeting, the Economic Development Commission agreed with the idea of
the City placing entrance signs at the main entrances of the City. These signs would be based on
the message of the existence of the City. The City has also received bids for the signs with
different styles that are available. I have also listed the locations of the existing signs at the
entrances to the City. For your information, I have provided copies of the following:

1)
2)
3)

Sign Locations
Property Owners
Types of Signs and Prices

Observations:

When looking at the type of signs available, the City should choose a type that requires limited
upkeep as that is currently one of the main problems with the existing signs. The cost of the signs
will need to be addressed including the cost of the easements from the property owners. However,
the property owners may be willing to donate the required easement. If they would not be willing
to do this, the City may wish to relocate the signs as to provide for a free easement. The actual
cost of the signs may be acquired from local service groups also.

Recommendation:

Based on Commission discussion, a style and material type for the entrance signs should be
chosen and the cost should be presented to the City Council for budgeting of the cost of the sign.

Commission Action:

Motion to recommend that the City budget for and construct the monument signs at the entrances to
the City.

Review Checklist:

Project Manager
City Administrator

EDC:09-18-91
