CASE #2

SIGNS FOR INDUSTRIAL PARK AREA
By: James Gromberg, Project Manager

Background:

The idea for entrance signs to the City has given rise to the idea of signs showing the entrance to
the local industrial area. These signs would be different than the entrance signs to the City and
would generally be smaller in size. City Staff has received different types and price quotes for
these signs also. For your information, I have included the following for your review.

1 ) Illustration of possible signs and their costs

Observations:

If the Economic Development Commission decides to proceed with the development of industrial
park signs, it Will need to consider many of the same questions that affect the entrance signs for the
City.

One advantage of the industrial park signs is that the companies whose names appear on the signs
could help pay the cost of the signs and their upkeep.

Easements on which to place the signs will also be needed. These again may be attainable by
reducing the cost to a business that gives an easement. The Commission will also consider when
the proposed signs will be built and the criteria for their placement.

Recommendation:

The Commission will need to develop a time table for the location and installation of the proposed
signs. This will also include a recommendation to the City Council as to the funds and how the
Commission would like the City to proceed.

Economic Development Commission Action:

Motion to recommend that the City plan for the construction and location of signs at the entrances
of the industrial areas of the City.

Review Checklist:

Project Manager
City Administrator

EDC:09-18-91
