CITY HALL · 2015 FIRST AVE. NO. · ANOKA, MINNESOTA 55303-2270

Phone (763) 576-2700 , Fax (763) 576-2727 · TTY (763) 422-0442 · www. ci.anoka.mn.us

Heidi Nelson
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Blvd NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

December 2, 2003

Dear Heidi Nelson,

The City of Anoka Parks Dept currently manages the Anoka Senior Center. As part of our services and
programs, we provide transportation to seniors living in the city of Anoka, from their homes to/from the Anoka
Senior Center for congregate dining, recreational activities, potluck dinners, day trips and to area shopping
centers such as Riverdale (Cub & Wal-Mart), North Town, and Brookdale Malls.

We recently received interest from the residents at Savanna Oaks Apartments requesting transportation
services so that they could affordably participate in the congregate dining and shopping programs at the An°ka
Senior Center. The seniors at Savanna Oaks felt the Anoka County Traveler was too expensive to utilize on a
regular basis. Transportation services would be available to seniors in Ramsey, not just those at Savanna
Oaks, who live within the expansion area.

The Anoka congregate dining program is provided by Volunteers of America, lunch is served Monday -
Friday (except holidays) at noon for a suggested donation of $3.00. The meals are nutritionally balanced and
well worth the price. No one is turned away because of inability to pay. Currently, a 50-cent round trip fee is
requested for transportation to the Senior Center and $2.00 round trip fee for transportation to shopping
centers.

The City of Anoka Parks Department is applying for Anoka County Community Development Block Grant
funds to offset the costs of delivering this service. We would appreciate a letter of support from the City of
Ramsey to accompany our grant application. If approved, grant funds would are available July 1 -June 30,
2004.

We would like to provide access to Anoka Senior Center programs and activities only with the support of the
City ofRarnsey. I will send you a map of the projected expansion area and the senior center's most recent
newsletter.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 763-5763-2984 or email at
I lacasse@ci.anoka, mn.us.

Sincerely,

Lisa A. LaCasse
Rec. Services Manager
