Council Update
Stork Pins. Officers received a call of a woman in labor at an address in Ramsey. Upon arrival,
the first officer found the woman in her vehicle and in discomfort. The woman advised the officer
that the baby was on its way. The officer "checked below" and observed the baby's head crowning.
Another officer arrived at this time. The mother was told to push and a baby girl was delivered
seconds later. Allina paramedics arrived a few minutes after the delivery was complete.
(Ambulance was delayed by a train). Mother, baby and officers are all doing fine. It is unknown if
the baby was going to be named Cheryl after Officer Hassel. Officers receive a Stork Pin for
delivering a baby.
Tobacco Checks. Through an educational tobacco compliance grant through the MN Department
of Human Services, the Ramsey Police Department conducted one round of compliance checks on
all licensed tobacco vendors in the city. Sixteen vendors were checked, with two failures. Because
the focus of the grant is educational, clerks who passed the checks were awarded with
certificates. Those who failed were provided with materials to educate them on tobacco laws,
compliance, penalties, and how to change their behavior when selling tobacco products. There
were no financial penalties to clerks or businesses. The ultimate goal of the grant is to congratulate
clerks who are in compliance, provide education on the law, what compliance checks are, why
they are important, and penalties that could be assessed.
Update on Sweetbay Ridge Phase II. Staff received communication from Greatland Homes,
owner of the remainder of Sweetbay Ridge, that they have begun preparing design documents to
apply for Preliminary Plat starting in May. Staff will begin pre - application review and
discussions with the Owner in the coming weeks.
Winter is Not Ready to Give up Quite Yet. This week we had two minor plowing events and
one city wide plowing event. For those of us keeping score, that's 27 minor events and 14 citywide
plowing events this season. The utility department added another frozen water service to their list,
bringing the overall number to 27 frozen services this season. The park department, when not
helping with snow removal, is busy trimming boulevard trees, and going through mowers and
other field maintenance equipment in anticipation of spring.
Save the Date:
• Anoka County Senior EXPO 2014.
