Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #14-03-062 <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 25, 2014 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND THE <br />MONTH OF MAY 2014 AS "ARBOR MONTH" <br />WHEREAS, trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today and enrich <br />our lives by purifying air, soil and water; and <br />WHEREAS, trees help conserve and protect soil from erosive forces, moderate <br />temperatures, reduce stormwater runoff, and provide habitat for life of all kinds; and <br />WHEREAS, trees provide beautiful recreational settings and promote personal, <br />community and ecosystem health; and <br />WHEREAS, trees increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of <br />business areas, create jobs through forest products and are a renewable resource; and <br />WHEREAS, activities such as construction damage, regional and distant source <br />pollution, as well as certain diseases and pests, threaten our trees, creating the need for <br />concerted adaptive and collaborative action by locally planting, nurturing and protecting <br />trees for benefit of citizenry, economy and ecology; and <br />WHEREAS, the City continues to promote both the planting of trees in the <br />community and the associated benefits of trees by coordinating and sponsoring an <br />Environmental Expo event and a Tree Sale annually; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey will be recognized for the 22nd consecutive year <br />(2013), as a Tree City USA; and <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims April 25, 2014 as "Arbor Day". <br />2) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims the month of May as "Arbor <br />Month". <br />3) That the Ramsey City Council urges all citizens to plant trees as part of Ramsey's <br />living history, to participate in disease and pest control programs that will ensure <br />an enduring tree canopy, and collaborate with partners and volunteers to develop <br />and implement policies to plant, nurture, protect, and steward our natural diversity. <br />4) That the Ramsey City Council encourages efforts to maintain our historic sites with <br />significant tree species, enhance species diversity to buffer against disease and/or <br />
